I was asked to be interviewed by My Lolita Style, the biggest Latin American lolita forum/community!

Here is the translated interview on their website! It's cute how they added in photos. But here is the original interview for the rest of us who don't understand Spanish:

note: English is not the interviewee's first language, but I think you can still understand what she meant by the questions she asked :)

1 * Can you please tell us a little about your life? (Age, Country, etc)

Hi everybody, my name is Julie! I'm 23 years old living in California, USA. My life is not too different from others.. I work during the weekdays, then go out whenever there's fun to be had!

2 * How did you get to dress lolita? what attracted you most like?

I went to a used Japanese book store when I was 15 and discovered KERA! It was the start of my love of all alternative Japanese street fashion. I think this word is said often, but it's true.. I was attracted by how cute it was!

3 * What positive things has brought Lolita to your life?

I met most of my friends this way, and I still continue to meet awesome people. I was also contacted by Sanrio and Sephora to do promotional event modeling for them just because of the way I dressed!

4 * From what moment you consider yourself a true lolita?

When I finally pulled together a decent outfit haha.

5 * What other styles you get used to wear?

I admire tons of styles, but I only actively wear some of them. Currently I wear casual J-punk, something I call "cutesy" because I'm not sure how to define it, gothic (all kinds, from casual to elegant), and my normal style.. which is usually an oversized top or sweater paired with shorts and tights.

6 * Do you believe in Lolita Lifestyle?

I'm not sure if anybody really lives this way, but whatever floats your boat.

7* What is your favorite outfit/piece of your closet? Have a story?

Of course, my dream dress: the Kira Kira Doll Set by Angelic Pretty! The first time I saw it was in person when AP came to America for the first time; they brought it to their boutique to sell. I was very, very new to lolita and young at the time, so I didn't have much brand or money. I actually didn't like the set at first and thought it was too over the top. But for some reason, I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. I was considering either buying one big item (that set) or a bunch of little accessories. I decided on the latter, because I thought it would be more helpful since I kind of knew how to sew my own dresses. Years later, my friend was selling this set, and I jumped at it!

8*Please, tell us about your awesome experiencies like modeling for Candy Violet or meet Gwen Stefani! <3

Modeling for Candy Violet.. it was so scary! I was just supposed to be an attendee for the event, but they needed models and asked me to help. I was very reluctant and refused at first, but I couldn't leave them hanging! I had never walked a runway before, so I was very afraid and I kept rehearsing how to walk backstage. Let me tell you: it's harder than it looks haha. When it came down to showtime, I was jittery all the way up till I had to walk up the stairs to face the audience. As I walked out, I just kept reminding myself to do the best I could to not bring shame to the designer. After I came off-stage, I quickly changed and went back to my seat to enjoy the rest of the show. I'm kind of sad that I missed the first part, but the rest of it was very nice!

As for meeting Gwen Stefani.. it was very brief since she was so busy with running around during the whole event. Which is understandable, because she was the main attraction and had lots of people to see. During our group photo, her son popped in and wouldn't leave, so he's there in our picture! It was really cute.

9 * This is our community! (PICS) Could you tell me a little of yours?

Wow, what a big and wonderful community! I even see some familiar faces :D

As for my community, there used to be a time when I knew everybody.. but nowadays it seems like I don't know anybody at all haha! It's pretty cool to see how big lolita has gotten. Unfortunately, I'm usually not free to attend so many meet-ups, so I can't say too much more about the community here in Southern California. But from my experiences so far, everybody seems to be really nice! Sometime I need to remind myself not to be so shy though haha.

10 * Tell a story the best meetup when you've gone!

I haven't been to too many meet-ups in my lolita life, but I guess my favorite was one of the earlier ones.. I think it was my third one? It was a simple meet-up where we just went to a tea house and then visited the pier by the beach to take photos together.. but what really made the meet-up the best were my fellow attendees! I was still new to lolita at the time and even shyer than I was now, but they were very friendly and welcoming. I'm still friends with a lot of them :)

11* You are famous for having a particulary sense of style! How did your style evolve in Lolita? You have an "ita" beginning?

That's really sweet of you to say "famous," but that's so weird to hear because I'm not haha. My evolution with lolita isn't uncommon.. pretty typical actually. I started out with black x white ita (So yes, I was an ita at the beginning.. sometimes I think I still one haha), and then started to wear (old school) sweet and gothic lolita. I just kept wearing more accessories as time went on and threw punk lolita into the mix too. I never really wore classic lolita, but I plan to someday!

12. Where doesir come your inspiration to create your coordinated?

Like any outfit, my inspiration comes from many factors.. what I'm doing for the day, my mood, the weather outside.. things like that. I also get inspired by other things like movies, magazines, my peers, etc. I always like to put my own spin on things, although sometimes I'm lazy and make boring/rehashed outfits haha.

13 * What advice would you give to girls who are new style?

I don't think it's enough just to do your research.. you have to wear it and experience it too! As they say, practice makes perfect. It's quite an expensive fashion to get into, but don't forget the other alternatives to brand, such as making your own clothing. It took me a couple of years to get the hang of lolita, so don't feel discouraged! Also, sometimes people may not approve of your choices, but if it's something that makes you happy, then don't let them keep you down! (But don't forget that not everything suits everybody haha.) Just keep trying if it's something that you enjoy, and sooner or later you'll find your personal lolita style.

14 * Sends a message to our community!

I dyed my hair again, although the right side is more teal than green :(

I based my t-shirt from this illustration from Batman: HUSH. It was really easy to remake: all you need is a plain, orange t-shirt (which I got for only a penny at Michael's! Scoreeee) and a black fabric marker.

My lettering isn't 100%, but I'm glad I didn't mess up any more than I already did @__@

Although when I wear this t-shirt out on the town, I wonder if I possibly offend everybody not in the know (which is mostly everybody haha) about openly admitting to murder on my clothing 8D I guess it's kind of good that my hair blocks the top part..

Panda Sailors & Lolitas On a Haunted Ship

My friends and I had a 100-Acre Wood themed day at Disneyland. Sadly, no pictures of my friends cause somehow those pictures won't load anymore ;3;

As my favorite: Pooh!

It's actually rare to have a meet and greet with Darth Vader, the Stormtroopers, and Darth Maul (although there wasn't enough time for me to meet Darth Maul too ;3;). It's because the only time they do it is when they're unable to go on with the Jedi Academy due to weather problems.

Although I hear nowadays they randomly walk around Tomorrowland (along with Captain Rex and Boba Fett). This might have only been in promotion for the new Star Tours relaunch though.

Ack, I'm sorry about the serious lack of updates! The holiday season is so busy, and it's still not over yet with the New Year coming around the corner. It doesn't help that I've recently started to play Skyrim either x] (although this won't last for long since I'm borrowing it from a friend ;3;)

I'll end this post with a magical two-leveled merry-go-round! They had cool animals like kangaroos and giraffes too. My favorite is the cup, because it spins around as you're already going round in circles! So intense.

For the costume contest, my friend and I went for the Savon theme. I was the shop manager and she was the shop girl. "Savon" means "soap" in french, so she had pearls, lace, flowers, rhinestones, glittery foam balls, etc all over her outfit.. I wish you could see the details! We both have a mixture of handmade and altered clothing and accessories to complete our look.

And guess what? We won first place!! I couldn't believe it when they called out our number. Honestly, I'm kinda still in shock.. there were so many other great entries *__* I'm happy our hard work paid off :D

Hello Kitty x Sephora Hotel Suite Party

My friends and I were invited to a VIP preview party of the new make-up line (Film Noir) from HK x Sephora. It was held at Maison 140 in Beverly Hills.

We were also given free nail polish from the new line as well as a new Chubby Bunny bow that hasn't been released yet♥ Four hours of free food, drinks, being surrounded by cuteness, and hanging out with friends.. this night was pretty awesome. All thanks to Sephora, yippy!

This picture is really special because of the location (or at least, I feel like it is!). It's located inside of a store, and Aladdin had to call the higher-ups to get permission to take pictures inside! I'm happy they let us :D

I made our blue bows, and she made the cute necklaces with a note that says "Drink Me" inside of it :D She also let me borrow a pin for the day too :)

we had no idea what she was doing behind us until I looked at my camera later x]

I love a good photobomb..

As if the day couldn't get any better.. not only did we catch Mickey and Minnie inside of the joke shop, but we got photobombed!

The awesomeness didn't stop there though! We also danced in the "Celebrate!" parade with Alice and the Mad Hatter, and then later linked arms to congo-dance with Pinocchio and Geppetto! It was perfect because we were being mistaken for Pinocchio that day too :p (Even Pinocchio himself thought we were dressed as him!) No pictures of that though, since we were all dancing.

That day was easily one of my top favorite Disney days EVER.

A closet cosplay of Joker as a nurse as seen in The Dark Knight. Obviously not 100% accurate :p The only things I had to go out and buy was the make-up, hair dye, and shoes. I found the image for my badge online and just printed it out. A pretty quick and painless outfit to assemble!

iam8bit had a ultra special show which they called iamsuper8bit.
Basically, a crazycool art show for the video game nerds 8D

I'm just gonna share some that were my favorite.. there were tons more artwork! And of course, the quality of my pictures aren't too good since I went on opening night (a.k.a. insane crowds) and the lighting wasn't ideal (for my picture-taking at least :p). Enjoy anyway!!

I'm so sad this came out blurry! I think it was a real turtle too.

They had HUGE set-up of Galaga! You played on the arcade cabinet, and it was projected on the wall for everybody to see. For size comparison.. I think the white/red buttons on the floor were larger than my foot haha.

My friend and I were so short that we had to be on our tip-toes.
Thus covering up our funny faces haha. We couldn't stop laughing!

They had a mix and match thingy outside!
There were other characters, but I only remember Sonic and Blanca.

We had to wait an hour or so, but I'd say it was worth it♥

I wasn't supposed to model, but they asked me since they needed somebody!

When they saw this dress, they thought, "Julie should model this!"
I'm so happy they paired me up with this dress.. it's gorgeoussss.

It's really different from when I wear sweet or gothic lolita.. it gave me a renewed feeling, as if I was wearing lolita for the first time again!

The fashion show coordinators also made me go without my usual amount of eyeliner.. I felt so naked @__@

It was my first time on a runway, so I was freaked out. I kept rehearsing right up until we had to line up, because I was so scared of messing up. Modeling is tough! Walking and posing is a lot harder than it seems haha. But it was a great experience to model for Candy Violet♥

Walking by the Hold Up art gallery in Little Tokyo, I saw that they had a Star Wars exhibit going on! There were quite a few pieces in there, but I'm going to share my favorite series of the bunch.

Keep in mind that I took the following photos with my dinky camera, then tried to edit them to display the artwork as best as possible.. so the coloring, etc might not be true to the real deal. Like you can see the glare from the glass in some of the pictures @__@ I hope it's enjoyable nevertheless!

Tim Burton at LACMA

Last Saturday, I went to the Tim Burton exhibit at LACMA!

No pictures were allowed inside, but I'm kind of glad they didn't allow that.. I would be in there forever taking pictures of everything! It's an amazing collection of his life's work, and boy.. it's so inspiring and awesome. It's really a treat to see in person! My favorite art pieces were the ones with poems, which always rhymed and had funny endings.

a ghetto, girly version of Aquaman

A friend of mine was having a birthday x house-warming x Halloween party, so I had to dress up! They had a costume contest, and I won a sheriff's badge for having the most heroic costume haha.

As most of my outfits are, it was a last minute thought! The night before, I just went out to the mall to buy the black skirt and orange long sleeved shirt (I drew the scales on with a Sharpie). I already had the tights and gloves (that were originally from my Robin costume). I decided to wear flats instead of boots just cause it looked better. I couldn't find a yellow belt while shopping, so I just cut out felt and pinned it onto a belt.

One interesting thing I learned while putting together this outfit is that Mermaid Man (from Spongebob) is a parody of Aquaman!

I wasn't even sure if I was going to the party or not, but I decided to go at the last minute. Friday night, spent an hour at the store. Then from 8PM/FRI to 5:30AM/SAT/day-of-party, I spent sewing. It took me a while since I was dead tired, and sometimes I accidentally sewed things backwards, so I had to undo the stitching and start over again @__@

I guess I forgot to take an outfit snap that day, cause this is the closest thing I've got x] I originally wanted to color in the entire polka dot, but I bought a fabric marker [instead of fabric paint], so that's all of the ink it could muster.. I kind of like it though!

After the HK x LA event, my friends and I went to line up for the midnight screening of the last Harry Potter movie. There were quite a few people in uniform, but here are pictures of the people that dressed up as characters!

The Nuart Theater was having a midnight showing of Scott Pilgrim. Even though I already saw this movie a couple of times in theaters when it was first released, and even though I already own the dvd at home which I've also seen countless times, I HAD TO GO!

A big reason why I went was because of Mark Webber, a.k.a. Stephen Stills "The Talent," who was giving an intro and doing a Q&A after the movie. In the beginning, he gave away two of the shirts off of his back, which is why he's in a tank. Also a SP bracelet! I wish I won something ;3;

I was prepared and brought my dvd cover! Hopefully I can collect more signatures in the future :3

It was such a fun experience to watch Scott Pilgrim with fellow, hardcore fans. Although it was annoying when this particular person kept reciting the whole movie, especially after the usher gave a whole speech about NOT doing that :< I would totally go to another SP screening though♥

You can see the segment here! They focus on Onch first, then a restaurant, and then a band. We were like background props, but it was still cool to see the news anchors in person.. I secretly fangirled haha x]

During the band's part, Onch wanted us to dance in the background, so you'll see us make our way over. I was still scared and shy, so you'll see me straggling behind xD Looking back, I wish I busted out my moves instead of swinging back and forth ever so slightly.. I think it would've been more entertaining, that's for sure (I'm a bad dancer by the way 8D)

Back in 2007, I attended the Japan Expo in LA. To everyone's surprise, it was the first news of Maruione opening an international website! It's kind of crazy to think about it now, since it has closed down recently :(
But let's move onto the happy memory!

Hisacy and his live art! It looks almost done~

Besides having a booth there, Maruione brought over Hisacy from Hypercore. He has done illustrations for Sex Pot Revenge, and has had a featured section in the jfashion magazine KERA before. I think his brand mostly started out with his illustrations on t-shirts, but it has expanded since then.

I wasn't so knowledgeable about art back then, so when I inquired about the piece he was working on, I was shocked to hear $500! (Although now that I do know a little more about art, that price isn't too bad.. although still outta my budget haha ;3;) I told him that even though I really wanted it, I couldn't afford it at the time, but maybe in the future. I walked away a sad girl :<

For lunch, we ate at the Blue Bayou! It's the fancy pants restaurant inside of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Honestly, I didn't have a good experience! I ordered the filet mignon, and instead got a sauced-flavored square (I refuse to call it meat). I tried my friend's ribs, which weren't that much better. My other friend's crab cakes were decent though. This was a couple of years ago, so hopefully it's much better now! Or maybe we just went on an off-day. I hope my next experience will be betterrrrr

So I waited for 1HR+ to get an autograph from these guys. The two on the right are the creators of Avatar, while the other two are in charge of.. other stuff x] Haha I'm sorry, I forgot!! I think the first guy is co-in-charge with the two big cheeses concerning the new Avatar story. As for the second guy, I believe he is in charge of all of the animation, and did the final character designs. Don't quote me on that though..

My signed poster, yessss

I also got a free t-shirt that had a picture of Korra on it. I went to the panel later on in the day, and it was so epic!!! They showed a trailer of the new series, which you can just search for on youtube (look up "Legend of Korra"). The whole panel is on there too, actually x] It was totally exciting to hear the creators talk about their new, upcoming project. They talked about the new characters and a tiny bit about what's to come. Watching the trailer tears me up @__@ I can't wait!!!

My babies ;3;

I didn't really buy much, but I DID go crazy over these Tokidoki x Marvel keychains! They were in blindboxes, and I REALLY wanted Captain America, so this is how many times I tried until I finally got him @__@ (That's not the total of how much I bought though, since I got some for my sister too x])

It was sucha happy ending, cause right when I was about to give up, I thought, "What the heck, just ONE MORE TIME." I open it and show the contents to my sister, and ask, "What did I get?" Her eyes widen, and then I knew. I peeked inside and screamed, "HALLELUJAH!!" (which was also mixed in with regular screaming hahah) The staff members of Tokidoki were staring xD I seriously felt a wave of serenity after I got Captain America hahaha.

I got the Thing 3 times, but luckily was able to trade them for ones I didn't have yet. Sad story though: I lost Magneto within the first hour! I put him on my bag, and he must have fallen off.. oh well.. at least it was my extra x] Now I'm paranoid to use any of them. Ahem, but anyway..

Looks like the Lego version come to life!

The best part was that they didn't know each other! Ash eyed Misty from across the room, and when Misty finally saw Ash, he went right up to him and picked him up for a photo session xD Loves itttt

Comic Con, Here I Come!

Tomorrow will be my first time going to Comic Con. After years and years of wanting to go, I finally remembered to camp out for tickets this year. After three hours of hitting F5, I got tickets! Only for Saturday though.. but I'm still beyond excited!!! Feel free to say hi if you see me :p

My Day as a Hylian

After AM2, I wanted to go to Anime Expo! It was totally a last minute decision, and I had nothing to wear.

Me in the middle of two legit Links. Navi in the back with her sign that says, "Hey! Listen!"

An hour before my friend came over, I went to F21 to buy the green tank and white long sleeve shirt. They didn't have the right kind of green color I needed for Toon Link, so I just went with white. The hat I made out of another green tank top. And viola, ghetto Link! I made the belt buckle out of felt and just pinned it on. I already had everything else for the outfit (I wish I had the proper ears though).

Later in the day when she saw me again, she came up to me and exclaimed, "HEY~!!! Listen!" Haha too cute♥

In the beginning of July, I went to a new convention called AM2.

One of the booths I was looking forward to, although they were lacking in the lines I like.

My outfit!

My look was focused around being gothic and wearing all of the Hangry & Angry merch I have, since the designer, Gashicon, was one of the guests of honor. My left hand is covering a belt/necklace from the line, and I'm also wearing a cell phone charm as an earring.

There weren't too many cosplayers at this convention, but this was one of the most eye-catching!

He had sharpies in the back and encouraged people to leave messages. I chose to leave a hidden Mickey :p

There was a pirate section where people were playing various games that allowed one to win gold coins. My friends and I all played a game similar to ring toss, except you're throwing rings made of rope to catch a "wench's" leg. We added all of our gold together because some of us were going to be auctioned off as wenches (We wants the red head!)

I couldn't take any pictures since I was on stage and stuff, but haha oh man.. It was an interesting experience! I was auctioned off along with a lolita.. 2-for-1 deal ;D It's funny because not only did the group who bought us ended up buying my other friends that participated in the auction, but practically everybody else too! x) Turns out they had been playing games all day, allowing them to have the means to buy everybody. My friends couldn't afford us, even with the extra 100 coins they were given. Oh well, it was all for fun anyway :p

Next was the belly-dancing portion [which I did not do] where I witnessed a pokeball being thrown at Pedobear. Good times hahaha.

Bye bye AM2!

AM2 was a tiny con, but the guests were pretty good! I saw the world premiere of Kanon x Kanon's live performance. Japanese rock bands heidi. and Sadie were there too, but I didn't get to see them since they played on a day when I was working :( I think AM2 did well for being its first year.. I hope they come back bigger and better next time!

Winnie the Pooh: Special Event

Although the newest Winnie the Pooh movie doesn't come out until this Friday, my friends and I got to see it last Saturday! That's because being a D23 member (or having friends that are) allows you access to cool events.

It was a sold out show! I'm glad we were able to get tickets.

It was held at El Capitan. The whole line doesn't fit in the frame!

Depending on the movie playing, they'll have a certain kind of pre-show. If you remember from my TRON movie post, they had a laser show! But most of the time, they'll have an organist playing Disney songs. I had fun singing along (although sometimes I don't remember all of the lyrics hehe).

A small breakfast was included, how nice! The muffin was pretty good.

Flash forward to the end of the movie! They brought out the animators, who then did quick sketches of the characters and shared special movie clips with the audience. There was supposed to be a Q&A, but time was running short.

In the Poohtique! Oh so tempting.. I didn't get it though :<

Pretty cool! She sang the theme song (very nicely, I might add~!)

I was hoping for a Pooh-themed dessert, but forgot that the movie wasn't even released yet. Oh bother!

A star among the streets of Hollywood :D Yay for Pooh!

For a mere ten bucks, this experience was way worth it. As for my review of the movie, it was SO GOOD!!!! If you're a fan of Pooh, you'll love this movie. The story is absolutely darling, and I was laughing and smiling a lot. If you watch it, stay through the credits for a little clip at the end! Although I already saw this movie a week in advanced, I still plan to see it again, if not opening day! (Of course there's another movie coming out that day, which I am most definitely seeing at midnight ;D)

The Dread Crew of Oddwood

Last friday, I went to see The Dread Crew of Oddwood.

A six member celtic pirate rock band that is very fun and enjoyable to hear and watch!

Life is hard.

On this day, I visited Epcot! It's one of my favorite parks of Dworld because of the international showcase. And why? Cause there's 13 countries to eat food and sweets from (TTATT)!!!! Oh how I miss it...

One of the highlights of my trip was meeting Beast!!! He doesn't come out at Disneyland anymore (except for special occasions) because he's too scary for the children, as I've been told :< I talked to him a little, and we danced hehe.

Harry and the Potters

Harry and the Potters is the OG wizard rock band! They're a fun band that's highly enjoyable, especially for those with a love of Harry Potter.

Who says Slytherins and Gryffindors can't get along?

They had a free show at the library.. how suitable haha. The two Harrys are both brothers who started this band in 2002, while the drummer changes every now and then. For this show, he was "Siruis Black."

My favorite songs live are "Expulsion During Disapparation" and "Ted".

Another cool thing is that you can listen to all of their music online! A good song to start off with is Save Ginny Weasley.. it's actually the first song that I listened to :p I have a bunch of favorites.. too many to list all of them! But to name some, Fluffy is the best 16 second song ever, I often find myself randomly singing The Dark Lord Lament, and Voldemort Can't Stop the Rock is a good jam for anytime. What are your favorites?
